History of World Sight Day
In the mid-1970s, a blind activist, Sir John Wilson, along with several doctors, drew the international community’s attention to the problem of global blindness. Due to the initiative of these people, the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness was formed on January 1, 1975. Whereas before this, Sir John Wilson was made the founding president. The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) and the World Blind Union (WBU) were founding members of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.
